BLOOMINGTON AND SPOON RIVER FIRE UP FOR WEEKEND MIDGET ACTION

Speedway, Indiana (July 1, 2019)………USAC Midget racing on two fronts are headed for the Midwest border states of Indiana and Illinois this weekend.

An open USAC Midwest Midget Regional Special Event race utilizing standard USAC Midget racing rules, will be competing alongside the USAC Speed2 Midwest Thunder Midgets in a combined show at Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway on Friday, July 5.  Sterling Cling (Tempe, Ariz.) won the first of these events at Bloomington back in May.  Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio) leads the Midwest Thunder standings while Stratton Briggs (Anna, Ohio) won the most recent round last Saturday at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway.

Stratton Briggs (Anna, Ohio) is coming straight off a Midwest Thunder Midget victory last Saturday at Montpelier.  Briggs is second in the standings, 43 points behind two-time and defending series champ Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio), a two-time series winner this year.

In neighboring Illinois, the USAC Speed2 IMRA Midgets are back at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. this Saturday night, July 6.  Korey Weyant (Springfield, Ill.) captured last Saturday’s score there, ending defending series champion Andy Baugh’s three-race reign at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.  Baugh leads the standings 32 over Tyler Roth (Springfield, Ill.), a June winner at Macon (Ill.) Speedway.

Friday at Bloomington, it’s the “Fireworks Extravaganza” presented by Curry Auto Center.  UMP Modifieds, Midwest Mini Sprints and Super Stocks are also in action, concluding with an awesome fireworks display to celebrate USA’s 243rd birthday.  Pit gates open for the event at 3pm (Eastern) with grandstands opening at 5pm, hot laps at 6:30pm and racing at 7pm.  Adult general admission tickets are $15, student/military tickets are $10 (with ID) and kids 12 and under are free.

Fireworks are on the docket this Saturday at Spoon River.  Pits open at 3pm (Central), pill draw ends at 5:30pm, drivers meeting at 6pm and hot laps at 6:15pm with racing to follow.
