LUX LOGS USAC MIDWEST THUNDER FINAL AT GAS CITY, WIGAL WINS TITLE
Gas City, Indiana (October 21, 2023)………Matt Lux raced off into the sunset of the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget season with a feature victory during Saturday night’s 2023 finale at Indiana’s Gas City I-69 Speedway.
Meanwhile, by virtue of his fourth-place result, Zach Wigal (Belpre, Ohio) claimed the series championship by a narrow three-point margin (one position) over Bryce Massingill (Troy, Ohio) – the closest points race in series history.
Massingill led the opening two laps of the feature before Lux (Manilla, Ind.) took over for good. Lux led the remaining 18 circuits of the 20-lap feature to score the main event win by a 2.723 second margin.
For Lux, it was this fourth overall feature victory of the season, two of which came in points races and two others in non-points special events.
As far as Wigal, his fourth-place result provided him with a three-point edge in the title race over Massingill who finished as the runner-up behind Lux in the feature.
Following Lux to the finish line at Gas City was Massingill with Abby Hohlbein (Cloverdale, Ohio) third, Wigal fourth and Adam Taylor (Wheatfield, Ind.).
