SPEED2 MIDGETS RACE INTO VEGAS, SPOON RIVER AND BEAR RIDGE SATURDAY

Three venues host USAC Speed2 Midget competition this weekend. All races are scheduled for Saturday, September 22.

The Engler IMRA series returns to Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill., while the Laquerre’s Sports DMA series completes its 2018 campaign at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. The Western Speed2 Midgets race at The Bullring at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.

Hurricane Florence claimed a pair of races last weekend, forcing cancellation of Friday’s race at Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, N.C. and Saturday’s race at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, N.C. The Eastern Speed2 series resumes October 6 at Orange County Speedway in Durham, N.C.

Elvis Rankin of Evergreen, Colo. won Friday night’s “Harvest Classic” USAC Western Speed2 Midget race at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. He passed Johnny Nichols on lap five and led the rest of the way for the 25-lap win. Adam Lemke finished second ahead of Toni Breidinger, Joey Iest and Austin Carter. Adam Lemke of Hollister, Calif. led all but the first lap to win Saturday night’s “Harvest Classic” USAC Western Speed2 Midget feature at Madera Speedway. Iest, Breidinger, Rankin and Bryant Bell rounded out the “top-five.”

Aaron Leffel of Springfield, Ohio scored his third victory of the 2018 USAC Midwest Thunder Speed2 campaign Saturday night at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. He passed Stratton Briggs on lap 10 and led the final 11 laps for the win over Jon Steed, Alex Watson, Briggs and Cory Guingrich. The Midwest Thunder series resumes September 29 at Montpelier.

USAC Laguerre’s Sports DMA Speed2 Midget point leader Jason Goff of Preston Hollow, N.Y. won Friday night’s feature at Legion Speedway in Rumney, N.H. Will Hull took second ahead of Joe Krawiec, Jeff Horn and Robert White.

Korey Weyant of Springfield, Ill. won Saturday night’s Engler USAC IMRA Speed2 Midget feature at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. He passed Shane Morgan on lap 15 and led to the checkered to beat Tyler Roth, Andy Baugh, Brent Burrows and Jason Allen. Mitchell Davis led all 18 laps to win Sunday night’s Engler USAC IMRA Speed2 Midget race at Quincy (Ill.) Raceways. Andy Baugh was second ahead of Bart Andrews, Jeremy Hull and Jeff Sparks.
