SPEED2s COMPETE IN CALIFORNIA, VERMONT & ILLINOIS THIS WEEK
California, Vermont and Illinois all host USAC Speed2 Midget racing this week. Friday’s Western race is at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. Saturday’s races are at Santa Maria (Calif.) Raceway (Western), Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill (IMRA/Midwest Thunder) and Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. (DMA).
Aaron Leffel of Springfield, Ohio extended his lead in the USAC Midwest Thunder Speed2 Midget series standings with Saturday night’s 20-lap feature victory at Montpelier Motor Speedway. He grabbed the lead from Alex Watson on lap nine and never looked back as Watson came home second ahead of Stratton Briggs, Jon Steed and Gunnar Lucius.
Nolan Allison of Greensboro, N.C. won Friday night’s 35-lap USAC Eastern Speed2 Midget race at Ace Speedway, leading the final 31 laps after passing Johnny Petrozelle on laps five. Jessica Bean took second ahead of Neal Allison, Connor Gross and Petrozelle. The Eastern series resumes September 14 at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, N.C.
Mitchell Davis of Auburn, Ill. passed Adam Taylor on lap seven and led the final 14 laps to win Sunday night's 20-lap Engler USAC IMRA Speed2 Midget race at Spoon River Speedway. Shane Morgan, Sean Murphy, Andy Baugh and Brent Burrows completed the "top-five."
