BEAR RIDGE, SPOON RIVER, MADERA AND 34 HOST SPEED2s THIS SATURDAY
Vermont, Illinois, Iowa and California host USAC Speed2 Midget races this week. Saturday night races are slated at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. (DMA), Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL (IMRA) and Madera (Calif.) Speedway (Western), while Sunday’s race is at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa (IMRA). The two IMRA races are also listed as Midwest Thunder “special events.”
Series point leaders entering this week’s races are Adam Taylor (IMRA), Dean Christensen (DMA) and Jesse Live IV (Western overall and pavement).
Derek O’Hearn of Canton, NH won last Saturday night’s 25-lap USAC Speed2 DMA Midget race at Bear Ridge Speedway. He took the lead on lap 12 and led the final 14 laps to beat Joe Krawiec, Adam Whitney, series point leader Dean Christensen and Andy Barrows. Jeff Champagne led laps 1-11.
Sam Hatfield of Mooresville, NC won last Saturday night’s 35-lap USAC Speed2 Eastern Midget race at Highland Rim Speedway. New series point leader Jessica Bean finished second ahead of Nolan Allison, George Kurtz and Nick McFarland, who led the first 19 laps of the race. Sunday’s race at Kentucky Motor Speedway in Whitesville, Ky. was rained out after qualifying as Nolan Allison posted the fastest qualifying time.
Rain also forced cancellation of last Saturday’s scheduled Speed2 Gulf Coast Midget race at 281 Speedway in Stephenville, Texas.
