GULF COAST MIDGETS BEGIN IN BOYD & GREENVILLE; IMRA SEES SPOON RIVER

USAC’s 2017 Speed2 Gulf Coast Midget Series debuts this week with races at Boyd and Greenville, Texas, while the Speed2 IMRA series continues with its 2017 Spoon River Speedway debut at Canton, Ill. Saturday.              Boyd Raceway hosts the Gulf Coast opener Friday and Superbowl Speedway is the Saturday Gulf Coast venue.

Chase McDermand of Springfield, Ill. led all 15 laps of Saturday night’s 2017 USAC Speed2 IMRA Midget opener at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa. Adam Taylor took the runner-up spot ahead of Gedd Ross, Brent Burrows and defending series champion Jeff Mallonee.

Jessica Bean of Farmland, Ind. led all 35 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Speed2 Eastern Midget feature at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Fast qualifier Chris Lamb finished second ahead of Nolan Allison, Jagger Parker and George Kurtz. The win left Bean with a four-point lead over Kurtz in the new series standings.

Kurtz, of Brighton, Colo., led wire-to-wire for the second straight time, winning Friday night’s 35-lap USAC Speed2 Eastern Midget race at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, S.C. Bean was second ahead of fast qualifier Anthony McCune, Parker and Nolan Allison.
