FOCUSES COMPETE AT HICKORY & PERRIS

CARLSON, KERSHAW POST VENTURA VICTORIES

The 2010 USAC Western, Midwest, Eastern and Carolina Ford Focuses all compete this weekend as championships will be determined in the final month of the season.

Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway hosts the Western and Western Dirt Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns Saturday night, while Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway is the site of Saturday’s Eastern/Midwest/Carolina race, as well as a “special event” race for the Carolina Young Guns.

It’ll be the “Night of Thunder” at Hickory, saluting former USAC and current NASCAR and Indy Car driver John Andretti. Joe Liguori enters the race as the Midwest leader, while Scott Hunter leads the Eastern and Carolina standings. At Perris, Nick Carlson is atop the Western and Western Dirt Ford Focus points, while Jarid Blondel (Young Guns) and Casey Martinez (Dirt Young Guns) lead their respective standings. Jesse Little is USAC’s 2010 Carolina Focus Young Guns champion.

Carlson, of Norwalk, Calif., and Tanner Kershaw of Oak Park, Calif. found the winners circle Saturday night in USAC Ford Focus racing at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. Carlson led all 20 laps of the Focus feature, while Kershaw led all 20 laps of the accompanying Focus Young Guns main event.

Trailing Carlson were Wally Pankratz, Kyle Edwards, Tony Cinque and Jet Davison. In the Young Guns race, Martinez was second ahead of Blondel, Bradley Morris and Alex Jacobsen.
