LEGACY TEAMS WITH HAMILTON FOR USAC SILVER CROWN RUN SATURDAY AT TOLEDO
Pittsboro, Indiana (August 1, 2023)………Davey Hamilton Jr. will drive Legacy Autosport’s Metalloid 1, Ackerman Toyota, Legacy Autosport Chassis No. 19 in a pair of upcoming USAC Silver Crown events.
The Boise, Idaho driver will take over the wheel of the Pittsboro, Indiana-based team’s ride starting this Saturday, August 5, at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway and on Sunday, August 27, at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill.
Hamilton is an accomplished driver with multiple pavement wing sprint car wins along with being the King of the Wing Western Sprint Car series champion. He has successfully run Midgets, Non-Wing Sprints, Silver Crown, Stadium Trucks and Indy Lights (now INDY NXT), as well as 12 career USAC Silver Crown starts.
Now he steps into the Legacy Autosport ride, which sits third in USAC Silver Crown entrant points after fielding drivers such as Tyler Roahrig, Caleb Armstrong and Kevin Thomas Jr. this season. In four Silver Crown starts on pavement, the Legacy Autosport ride has never finished worse than 8th, including three podium finishes. Hamilton, meanwhile, enters after finishing 5th at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway in his most recent outing.
“I am extremely honored to get the opportunity to drive for Legacy Autosport,” Hamilton exclaimed. “This is a team that doesn't take short cuts, and I am looking forward to progressing with them. When the conversations started to arise, I knew this would be something I could not turn down. Not only does it give me a program to be focused on, but it also helps my dad's team focus on their program.”
Hamilton has been driving for his father, 11-time Indianapolis 500 starter Davey Hamilton, in Silver Crown competition for the past two years on the pavement portion of the series schedule.
“I am ready to jump in the car this weekend at Toledo and see what we can do,” Hamilton stated. “I can't thank Mike and the entire Legacy Autosport team enough for the opportunity. I also want to say thank you to my partner, Ackerman Toyota of St. Louis, for their continued support in my career.”
The owner of Legacy Autosport, Mike Meyer, is the great grandson of Louis Meyer, the first three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and the first to celebrate a 500 win with milk in victory lane. He now looks forward to chasing after a Rollie Beale Classic victory with Hamilton Jr. at the helm this Saturday at Toledo.
“All of us on the team are excited to get to the track and get working with Davey,” Meyer said. “He has shown he has the speed and the patience to compete at the top of this series, and I feel with the right preparation, he can be there at the end for a win and continue to showcase what our new chassis is capable of.”
