UTAH, ILLINOIS, NORTH CAROLINA & CALIFORNIA HOST FOCUSES

GERHARDT, QUINN FIND VICTORY LANE

Kipp Posey, Joe Liguori, Jeremy Frankoski and Kyle Edwards hope to continue as point leaders in USAC Ford Focus racing series this week as races are scheduled in Utah, Illinois, North Carolina and California.

Posey leads the Utah series to Saturday and Monday races at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, while Liguori leads the Midwest series to the “Bob Lockard Memorial” at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Saturday night. Frankoski is atop the Carolina series, which visits Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway Saturday, and Edwards will try to retain the Junior Focus lead in Saturday’s race at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.

Cody Gerhardt of Madera, Calif. led the final 11 laps of Saturday night’s 30-lap USAC California Pavement/Utah Ford Focus feature at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring in his Western Speed entry to record his second victory of the 2009 campaign. He passed Eric Gunderson on lap 20 and led the rest of the way to beat series point leader Nik Romano, Gunderson, Luis Ramos III and Bob Brewer. Gerhardt’s win leaves him only 32 points behind Romano in the new California pavement standings. Posey finished 13th.

Ethan Quinn of Valencia, Calif. piloted his Kruseman Enterprises Junior Focus to victory in Saturday night’s 14-lap feature race at Ventura Raceway. He trailed Jarid Blondel for nine laps, then led the final five to beat Blondel, Dennis Simunovich, Andrew Murray and Taylor Ferns. Series point leader Kyle Edwards finished sixth. The win was Quinn’s third this season.
