FOCUS RACING IN INDIANA, ILLINOIS & CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK

DODENHOFF, SIMUNOVICH, LIGUORI & FRANKOSKI ALL TAKE WINS


USAC’s Ford Focus racing series will compete in three different states this week. Joe Liguori leads the Midwest series to Schererville, Ind.’s Illiana Motor Speedway Wednesday night and Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Saturday night. Eric Gunderson (California Pavement Focus) and Kyle Edwards (Junior Focus) lead their respective series into Saturday night’s “doubleheader” at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. The Morris race opens the 2009 USAC/UMRA Ford Focus campaign.


 


Sean Dodenhoff of Bakersfield, Calif. paced the entire 20 laps of Saturday night’s California Dirt Ford Focus race at Ventura Raceway. He beat Bobby Michnowicz, Andrew Mulhearn, Walt Johnson and Nick Carlson to the checkered flag and will lead the series standings back to Ventura June 6.


 


Liguori, of Tampa, Fla., continues to lead the 2009 USAC Midwest Ford Focus Series standings after leading all 30 laps to win Thursday night’s race at Mount Lawn Speedway. Tyler Cottongim was second, ahead of Chris Lamb, Jimmy Simpson and fast qualifier Coleman Gullick. Liguori drove the C & R Racing Beast to the win.


 


Jeremy Frankoski of Huntersville, N.C. won Saturday night’s 35-lap USAC Carolina Ford Focus race at Dillon Motor Speedway. Frankoski, drive the Tracy Trotter entry, passed Steven Intravaia on lap six and never looked back, beating fast qualifier Shane MacMillan, Eric Coomes, Tim Craver and Scott Hunter. Frankoski continues to lead the series standings. The Carolina series resumes June 6 at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.


 


Dennis Simunovich of Hollister, Calif. led the final seven laps to win Saturday night’s 15-lap USAC Junior Ford Focus feature at the Ventura Raceway. Jarid Blondel, Alex Jacobsen, Devan Myrick and Kyle Edwards rounded out the “top-five” at the finish. Edwards leads the series standings going into a May 30 race at Roseville, Calif.
