FOCUS RACES ON TAP AT MORRIS, CONCORD & PERRIS

RIETHMEYER, POSEY NAB CAROLINA, UTAH VICTORIES

USAC’s Ford Focus Series continue to search for 2009 champions this week, with races slated in Illinois, North Carolina and California.

Joe Liguori leads the Midwest series to Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Saturday night, while Jeremy Frankoski sits atop the Carolina standings heading into Wednesday night’s race at Concord (NC) Motor Speedway. Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway hosts the California Dirt and Junior Focus series, led by Brody Roa and Kyle Edwards respectively.

Wednesday’s competition at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway will not carry USAC sanction due to a change in the racing format. A similar circumstance was encountered regarding last Wednesday’s competition at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Defending USAC Carolina Ford Focus Champion Bradley Riethmeyer of Hutto, Texas was the winner of Saturday night’s race at Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway, driving for car owner Tracy Trotter. He passed Steven Intravaia on lap 23 and led the rest of the way for the win, beating series point leader Frankoski, Michael Sboro, Intravaia and Scott Hunter.

Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah led all the way to win Saturday night’s 25-lap USAC Utah Ford Focus feature at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. Posey was trailed by teammates Tanner Swanson and Michael J. Lewis, plus Gregg Fuette and Austin Luttmer. Posey continues to lead the series standings into an August 15 race at RMR.
