Speedway, Indiana (October 17, 2024)………The Salute to the Racin' with D.O. Show will be held at USAC headquarters in Speedway, Indiana this Friday night, October 18.
Join us as we relive the memories and make some new ones with footage from the hit 1990s-2000s motorsports TV show produced and hosted by D.O. Laycock. In the early years of the program, the show was co-hosted by Dave “The King” Wilson, who plans to be in attendance at the event on Friday.
The event is free to attend and all are welcome. Food and drink will be free with great company and quality entertainment all around. Doors open for the event at 6pm Eastern. The physical address of USAC headquarters is 4910 W. 16th Street, Speedway, IN 46224.
D.O. was in on the ground floor of ESPN’s Auto Racing coverage from its first year in 1979, a USAC National Sprint Car race at Indiana’s Salem Speedway. It’s a road that took him to working behind the scenes on popular shows as ESPN’s Speedweek and into the heyday of ESPN’s Thunder series which featured USAC events from coast-to-coast.
D.O. went in front of the camera in 1993 and partnered with comedian Dave Wilson to create the D.O. & The King TV show in 1994, which covered USAC Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown racing as well as local open wheel action in Indiana and from California to Pennsylvania and everywhere in between. Later, D.O. was also the host of a weekly radio program covering open wheel racing.
A car builder, a USAC Midget team owner, a promoter and official, D.O. was involved in several facets of the sport spanning five decades. Daniel Owen “D.O.” Laycock passed away in 2022 at the age of 72.
If you are a racer, a team member, or fan in town for Championship Saturday this Saturday, October 19, at Brownsburg, Indiana’s Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, please feel free to stop by and enjoy the festivities.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit USAC RaceAid. Since 1959, the United States Auto Club Benevolent Foundation (now USAC RaceAid) has provided financial aid to the families of auto racing participants with ties to USAC who have been injured and/or need assistance.
USAC RaceAid also provides support to surviving family members with immediate and ongoing expenses. Over the years, the foundation has provided millions of dollars to help members and their families in times of need. The needs, whether small or large, never cease.
