Perris, California (November 6, 2024)………After a hard fought two nights at the Western World Championships, the cars and stars of the Avanti Windows & Doors USAC CRA Sprint Car Series will head to Perris, California’s Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, November 9.
Promoted by Don Kazarian, the 22nd point race and season finale will also showcase the PAS Senior Sprint Cars, GAS Chassis PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars, and the “Jerry Dodd Champions Night” for the PASSCAR Super Stocks, PASSCAR Street Stocks and PASSCAR Factory Stocks. Located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in Perris, California, the Spectator Gates will open at 5:00pm Pacific and racing at "America's Premier Dirt Track" will start at 7:00pm. Since March 6, 2004, the Lake Perris Fairgrounds has held 257 USAC/CRA Sprint Car events and forty-six different drivers have claimed victory. “The Demon” Damion Gardner leads all series drivers with 51 “home track” wins as Matt Mitchell (twice), David Gasper, A.J. Bender, Tommy “Thunder” Malcolm (twice), “The Cadillac” Cody Williams, and “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. have scored PAS wins during the campaign. Nic Faas set the 1-lap track record of 15.833 on February 25, 2012 and the complete Perris USAC/CRA win list is at the end of this release.
R.J. Johnson (Laveen, Arizona) has claimed the 2024 Avanti Windows & Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Championship. Driving Ricky and Michele Johnson’s #51 JUGO Superfoods / Avanti Windows & Doors Sherman, Johnson became the first driver to earn Rookie of the Year honors (2005) and the championship with the series as well as the first driver from the “Copper State” to win the title. At press time, the newly crowned champion has two feature wins, three Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, three heat race victories, one semi-main win, twenty top-10 finishes, and 84 feature laps led on the season. The multi-time Arizona Sprint Car Champion is currently tied with “The Macho Man” Brady Bacon, “Dynamite” David Cardey, and Richard Vander Weerd with nine feature wins to his credit and will be looking to top off his season with another victory.
Tommy “Thunder” Malcolm (Yucaipa, California) ranks second in the USAC/CRA point standings. Racing Dino Napier’s #5X Indiana Truck Salvage / B&B Powder Coating Maxim, Malcolm scored twenty-third and eighteenth at Mohave Valley Raceway. To date, Tommy “Thunder” has four feature wins, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, five heat race victories, one In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award, seventeen top-10 finishes, and 86 feature laps led in the campaign. Tommy is tied with Robert Ballou, “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr., and “KTJ” Kevin Thomas Jr. with seven series wins and will have his sights on another triumph at Perris Auto Speedway.
“The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams (Yorba Linda, California) sits third in the USAC/CRA point chase. Piloting Tom & Christy Dunkel’s #17W Inland Rigging / Dunkel Farms DRC, Williams placed eighteenth and tenth at the Western World. At press time, the 2009 Co-Rookie of the Year has six heat race victories, two In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Awards, sixteen top-10 finishes, and 17 feature laps led on the year. “The Big Game Hunter” is tied with Matt Mitchell with eleven series wins and will be looking to win the season finale at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
A.J. Bender (San Diego, California) is fourth in the chase for the USAC/CRA championship. Racing the family owned #21 Bender Pool & Spa / Matrix Construction Services DRC, Bender scored eighth and fifteenth at Mohave Valley Raceway, To date, the former 360 Sprint Car Turkey Night Grand Prix Winner has one feature win, seven heat race victories, one semi-main win, fifteen top-10 finishes, and 44 feature laps led in the campaign. The 2022 USAC Western States Midget Rookie of the Year will be looking for the second USAC/CRA win of his career this Saturday night.
Leading rookie contender, David Gasper (Goleta, California) is fifth in the championship point standings. Driving the Kittle Motorsports & Gasper Racing #18 Art Klee / Martin Roofing DRC, Gasper scored two twelfth place finishes at the Western World. At press time, the two-time California Lightning Sprint Champion has two feature wins, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, three Factory Wraps semi-main wins, five In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Awards, fourteen top-10 finishes, and 59 feature laps led. David will have his sights on his third win of the year at the season finale.
While David Gasper (Goleta, California) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Elexa Herrera, Brent Sexton, Blake Bower, Braden Chiaramonte, Jon DeWees, Joey Bishop, Mark Henry, Tyler Hatzikian, Camie Bell, Aaron Altaffer, Jacob Tuttle, Heath Holdsclaw, Blake Hendricks, and Tom Dunkel are also in contention.
