MILLER GETS 1ST USAC WIN AT BEAR RIDGE
Bradford, VT……..Ray Miller of East Granby, Conn. couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present then the one he gave himself Saturday night at Bear Ridge Speedway. Starting on the pole for the opening night 25-lap USAC DMA Midget feature it was all about Miller. A first lap red flag in front of the flag stand took out Bear Ridge Speedway’s 2012 champion Scott Holcomb, Jim Mossman, David Rose, and Jeffrey Champagne. When racing resumed Miller set a blistering pace over the field. Mid race found him being challenged hard by Scott Viets of East Granby a car from the Miller Stable. Viets would be unable to get under Miller, who was protecting the bottom and after trying several attempts on the outside realized this would be all about Miller and second was the next best place to be. The Matczac stable entered the mix late in the race with 2012 USAC champ Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee Vt. challenging Viets for the second place spot. Chaffee was hooked on the outside, and a couple of late race cautions looked to be the opportunity for Viets or Chaffee to kick Miller off the top. Neither would be able to and it proved to be Stafford Speedway legend’s night. Chaffee’s teammate Joe Krawiec raced home in fourth place with Dean Christenson taking home fifth. Several rookies have entered the roster for 2013 and opening night had Mike Chaffee setting the lead over the rookies coming in 9th with rookie contender Dylan Duhaime rounding out the top ten.
