USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS GEAR UP FOR JUNE 23RD PERRIS RETURN

JUNE 19, 2018... This Saturday, June 23rd, the AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series will return to Don Kazarian’s Perris Auto Speedway for their third appearance of the season. The action packed card will also showcase the PAS Senior Sprint Cars, and the PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars. Located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds in Perris, California, the spectator gates at "America's Premier Dirt Track" will open at 5:00pm and racing is scheduled for 7:00pm. NOTICE TO RACERS: FRONT AXLE TETHERS ARE MANDATORY ON JULY 1ST. The Hoosier 105/16 Medium is the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier. The “Medium” is also the current legal tire with the USAC West Coast, USAC SouthWest, and VRA Sprint Cars. Cars must pass a tech inspection and one-way radios are mandatory for drivers. USAC/CRA charges a $25 entry fee to all competitors and the series rule book can be found online at www.usacracing.com. Since March 6, 2004, the Lake Perris Fairgrounds has held 206 AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car events. Thirty-eight different drivers have claimed victory, led by “The Demon” Damion Gardner with 44 main event wins. The 1-lap track record of 15.833 was set by Nic Faas on February 25, 2012. In the two previous races, Gardner topped the April 21st “Sokola Shootout” and “The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams took the hotly contested “Salute to Indy” on May 26th. Entering the sixth point race, “The Demon” Damion Gardner (Concord, California) has a 15-point lead over the competition. Piloting Mark Alexander’s #4 Trench Shoring / Weld Racing Spike, Gardner scored eighth in the “Salute to Indy.” At press time, “The Demon” has two feature wins, three heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and 87 feature laps led to his credit. The six-time champion has seventy-seven USAC/CRA triumphs and will be looking to extend his point lead with another Perris victory. 

After running second to Austin Williams at the “Salute to Indy,” Jake Swanson (Anaheim, California) climbed to second in the chase for the championship. Racing Tom and Laurie Sertich’s #92 Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror / Phil & Eileen King Triple X, Swanson has one heat race victory, one Saldana Racing Products / Racing Optics Hard Charger Award, five top-10 finishes, and 9 feature laps led in the campaign. The defending USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Champion has one career USAC/CRA win and will have his sights on his first victory Perris Auto Speedway.

Brody Roa (Garden Grove, California) ranks third in the USAC/CRA point chase. Driving the BR Performance #91R HD Industries / Burris Racing Maxim, Roa placed eleventh in the May 26th main event. At press time, the 2016 USAC West Coast 360 Champion has one feature win, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, four top-10 finishes, and 34 feature laps led on the season. Brody has four series wins and will be looking to add another trophy to his collection.

“The Cadillac” Cody Williams (Corona, California) sits fourth in the championship point chase. Piloting Jack Jory’s #44 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Spike, Williams ran fourth at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds. To date, 2010 Victorville Champion has posted one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, and three top-10 finishes in the campaign. “The Cadillac” has one USAC/CRA triumph and will have his sights on his first “home track” win this Saturday night. 

R.J. Johnson (Laveen, Arizona) is fifth in the USAC/CRA point standings. Racing Dwight Cheney’s #42 Racing Optics / Sander Engineering Maxim, Johnson charged from twenty-second to twelfth in May 26th “Salute to Indy.” At press time, the five-time USAC SouthWest 360 Sprint Car Champion has three top-10 finishes on the season. R.J. has six USAC/CRA wins to his credit and will be looking to gain valuable points with another win at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.

Currently nineteenth in points, Joel Rayborne (West Covina, California) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Gary Paulson (Woodland, California) is also in contention.

Bender, Tommy “Thunder” Malcolm, Logan Williams, Chris Gansen, Ryan Bernal, Richard Vander Weerd, “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr., “The Real American” Matt Rossi, Austin Liggett, “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr., Jace Vander Weerd, Jeff Dyer, Verne Sweeney, and more.
