SWINDELL "SWEEPS" WESTERN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

PHOENIX, AZ

Kevin Swindell of Germantown, Tenn. completed a clean sweep of the 41st NAPA Auto Parts/Budweiser/Parker Store “Western World Championships at Manzanita Speedway with Saturday night’s 40-lap feature victory on the storied half-mile dirt oval. Swindell led the last four laps of the race after Jesse Hockett’s engine exploded going down the backstretch while he was leading. Hockett had led twice for five laps, while Swindell led twice for seven laps in his Tom Rolfe Trucking/Honey Run Quilters Maxim/Ott. Tracy Hines led the first 28 laps but finished seventh. Trailing Swindell at the checkered flag were newly-crowned National Sprint Champ Jerry Coons Jr., Levi Jones, Dave Darland and Jeremy Sherman. Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car point leader Mike Spencer finished 15th.
