JONES WINS PERRIS THRILLER, WIDENS NATIONAL POINT LEAD

JONES WINS PERRIS THRILLER, WIDENS NATIONAL POINT LEAD

Perris, CA…….Levi Jones of Avon, Ind. took a giant step toward his third USAC National Sprint Car championship Friday night, winning a thrilling 25-lap preliminary feature in the 14th “Budweiser Oval Nationals” at the Perris Auto Speedway. Jones passed Damion Gardner on lap 14 and led the final 12 laps in his Tony Stewart Racing Chevy/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Kistler Chevy. Fast qualifier Jon Stanbrough finished second ahead of Lucas Oil USAC/CRA point leader Mike Spencer, Gardner and Darren Hagen. Jones emerged from the race with a 124-point cushion over Dave Darland, who flipped during the fifth heat race and was unable to start the feature. Spencer’s lead over David Cardey in the USAC/CRA standings now stands at 40 points going into Saturday night’s “Budweiser Oval Nationals” finale at the PAS.
