BRODY ROA WINS “CALIFORNIA RACERS HALL OF FAME NIGHT” AT PERRIS

BRODY ROA WINS “CALIFORNIA RACERS HALL OF FAME NIGHT” AT PERRIS

PERRIS, CA – AUGUST 21, 2021… Starting seventh, Brody Roa (Garden Grove, CA) raced past “Speedy” Stevie Sussex on lap 28 and captured the $2,500 “California Racers Hall of Fame Night” victory at Perris Auto Speedway. Driving the BR Performance owned #91R HD Industries / Burris Racing Eagle, Roa scored his second AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car win of the season and the tenth triumph of his career. Sussex, “The Cadillac” Cody Williams, Chris Gansen, and point leader “The Demon” Damion Gardner followed Roa to the checkered flags.

A special thanks goes to Chris Holt and everyone that contributed to the “California” Racers Hall of Fame Night.” The Perris and former Ascot infield announcer raised over $13,000 in additional prize money and bonuses for the night’s events. 

Before winning the 30-lap feature, Roa earned the night’s $2,100 “Woodland Auto Display / Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award” over the 27-car roster with a time of 16.440. The 2019 USAC SouthWest Sprint Car champion tied for second with Gardner in the Junior Kurtz / Bill Simpson Trophy Dash points, placed fifth in his heat race, and won the 12-lap billsjerky.com semi-main. Brody left the Lake Perris Fairgrounds ranked second in the standings, just 24 points behind Gardner.

With a one point margin of victory over Roa and Gardner, Matt Mitchell (Yorba Linda, CA) won the $2,000 Junior Kurtz / Bill Simpson Trophy Dash. Driving his #37 Roy Miller Freight Lines / Pit Boss Jacks Maxim, Mitchell topped the four segment, 3-lap dashes special event. The former USAC West Coast Sprint Car Champion qualified second overall, scored third in his heat race, and finished twentieth in the feature after an early tangle ended his night. Heading to the “Louie Vermeil Classic” at Chico, Matt sits eighth in the point standings.

“The Cadillac” Cody Williams (Corona, CA) raced to victory in the 10-lap Flowdynamics Incorporated First Heat Race. Piloting his #44 Trench Shoring / CRW Design & Machine DRC, Williams was thirteenth fast in time trials and charged to third in the main event after starting twelfth. The former Victorville Sprint Car Champion has climbed to fifth in the chase for the championship. 

Austin Liggett (Linden, CA) returned to USAC/CRA action and won the 10-lap Huntington Beach Glass and Mirror Second Heat Race. Racing the family owned #83 Excel Environmental Services / Liggett Trucking Maxim, Liggett qualified fourteenth overall and finished twentieth in the main event after an early wreck ended his night. At press time, the former USAC West Coast Sprint Car Champion has climbed to twenty-fourth in points.

“Thunder” Tommy Malcolm (Corona, CA) topped the 10-lap All Coast Construction Third Heat Race. Driving Dino Napier’s #5X Indiana Truck Salvage / B&B Powder Coating Maxim, Malcolm was fifteenth fast in time trials and charged from fourteenth to eighth in the main event. The young driver left Perris Auto Speedway ranked fifth in the championship point chase.

Jeff Dyer (Yucca Valley, CA) earned the night’s In Memory of Jim & Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award with a twelfth place run from twenty-second. Debuting the Cal-Sun Racing #39 Glenn Sels Engineering / John Springstead Racing ITI, Dyer was twenty-third fast in time trials, ran seventh in his heat race, and placed ninth in the semi-main. In limited starts, the veteran California Lightning Sprint driver sits twenty-second in the point chase.

“Speedy” Stevie Sussex (Tempe, AZ) earned the Shawn McDonald Memorial Qualifying Award, while “Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr. (Tipton, CA) was the Shawn McDonald Memorial Feature Award winner. Joel Rayborne (West Covina, CA) scored the Wilwood Disc Brakes Luck 13 Award in the main event.

The non-winged USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will prepare for three nights action, staring Saturday, September 4 and the following night at Silver Dollar Speedway (Chico, CA) for the two-night “Louie Vermeil Classic.” The winged 410 NARC King of the West Sprint Cars will share the action packed card. On Monday, September 6th, the traditional 410s will invade the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds and clash at Petaluma Speedway (Petaluma, CA).
