FOCUSES AT SPEEDROME, MERIDIAN, XENIA, STANLEY

PETERSON, HUNT, DANIELS, BRUNS, DRAKE, CUSTER WIN

 


Tracks in Idaho, North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana are on tap for USAC’s Ford Focus racing series this week. Tuesday ngiht’s events at the Bryant Heating & Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome presented by IUPUI include the Midwest Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns. The Western and Utah Ford Focuses are at Meridian (ID) Speedway Friday and Saturday, while the Eastern Ford Focuses and Focus Young Guns will race at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, N.C. Saturday. Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio hosts the Midwest Ford Focuses and Focus Young Guns Friday as well.


 


Garrett Peterson of West Sacramento, Calif. and Trevor Hunt of Liberty, Mo. captured USAC feature victories on “Open Wheel Night” at Stockton 99 Speedway Saturday night. Peterson won the 30-lap Ford Focus main event, leading all but one lap to beat Jessica Clark, Tanner Long, Brodie Kostecki and James Eden. Hunt led all 20 laps of the accompanying Focus Young Guns feature to beat Kostecki, Keegan Walmer, Eden and Christine Breckenridge


 


Defending USAC Utah Ford Focus Champion Michael Daniels of Magna, Utah returned to victory lane Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways, winning the 25-lap feature event. Fast qualifier Chuck Groat took second ahead of Gregg Fuette, Ron Duncombe and Jeff Kelley. Jim Waters was seventh but continues to lead the series standings


 


Patrick Bruns of Champaign, Ill. led the final 16 laps to win Friday night’s 20-lap USAC Midwest Ford Focus race at Gas City I-69 Speedway in his Behling Racing Equipment/Bell Helmets Beast. John Heydenreich led a lap and finished second ahead of Midwest point leader Ross Rankine, Toby Alfrey and Tyler Shullick, who led the first three laps


 


Nick Drake of Mooresville, N.C. and Cole Custer of Kannapolis, N.C. scored feature victories at the Bryant Heating & Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome Wednesday night. Drake led all 50 laps of the Midwest Ford Focus feature in his Haas Automation Beast. Ross Rankine finished second ahead of Nick Hamilton, Jessica Bean and Jarett Andretti. Custer passed early leader Jared Irvan on lap 23 and led the final eight laps of the Focus Young Guns feature in his Haas Automation Beast. Irvan finished second ahead of Sam McGhee, Bryant Dawson and Stevie Kuhn.
