LEWIS, WILSDON, WHITTEN & RAIN (TWICE) TRIUMPH

Dirt and Paved Ford Focus competition are on this week’s slate of races. Midwest series participants take to the dirt Friday night at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway, while the California Paved Ford Focus series continues Saturday at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. The USAC/UMARA Series returns to Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Saturday night as well.

Michael J. Lewis of Laguna Beach, Calif. scored his second USAC California Pavement Ford Focus feature win Saturday night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring. Battling his Western Speed Racing teammate, Lewis traded the lead back and forth with Cody Gerhardt before leading the final nine laps for the win. Nick Romano, Keegan Walmer, Jeff Oleen and Gerhardt rounded out the “top-five” at the checkered flag.

Adam Wilsdon of Howell, Mich. scored his first USAC feature victory in Friday night’s 30-lap USAC Midwest Ford Focus race at the Anderson Speedway. Leading all the way in his Bell Bullet, he beat series point leader Joe Liguori to the stripe. Jimmy Simpson, Katie Hargitt and Tyler Cottongim rounded out the “top-five.”

Tanner Whitten of Congerville, Ill., who recently won USAC’s 500th Ford Focus race, took the checkered flag again at Grundy County Speedway Saturday night, leading all 20 laps to beat Jimmy Simpson, Tyler Trainor and Bob Adams. Trainor was the fastest qualifier.

Rain forced cancellation of races at Salt Lake City, Utah and Concord, N.C. last week. The Utah series resumes July 4 at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City and the Carolina series resumes July 1 at Concord Motor Speedway.
