COLUMBUS, PERRIS, SLC ALL HOST FOCUS RACES

LIGUORI, BLACKHURST, WALMER (2) & THOMPSON VICTORIOUS

 


The Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway hosts the USAC Midwest and Eastern Ford Focus Midgets on its third-mile oval this weekend as part of the “JEGS Crown Midget Supernationals.” The event also features the USAC Mopar National Midgets and Midwest Focus Young Guns and the Mopar .25 Midgets will also compete on the smaller Columbus oval.


 


Joining Columbus on the weekend USAC Ford Focus calendar are Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, where the Western Ford Focus and Young Guns will race, and Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the Western/Utah series will compete, both Saturday night.


 


Joe Liguori of Tampa, Fla. continued his winning ways in the USAC Midwest Ford Focus Dirt series Friday night, scoring his third straight victory in a 20-lapper at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Liguori passed Toby Alfrey on lap 17 and led the final four laps in his Pit Stop Bar-B-Q & Grill Beast to beat Brunson Behning, Jessica Bean, Eric Rankine and Kyle O’Gara.


 


Jake Blackhurst of Mapleton, Ill. won Saturday night’s 40-lap USAC Midwest Ford Focus race at Toledo Speedway, leading the final 13 laps in his Kitchen Cooked/Schroth Racing Beast. Andy Nock finished second ahead of O’Gara, Toby Alfrey and Kent Kriegbaum. Bean, who led the first 27 laps, finished sixth. O’Gara was the fastest qualifier.


 


Keegan Walmer of Portland, Ore. and Cody Thompson of Fremont, Calif. were winners in USAC Ford Focus action Saturday night at the Stockton 99 Speedway. Walmer won the first of two 40-lap Ford Focus races and the 20-lap Focus Young Guns feature, while Thompson won the second 40-lap Ford Focus feature. Thompson finished second in the Focus opener, followed by Austin Farley, Cody Gerhardt and Bobby Runyan, In the Focus nightcap, Walmer was second ahead of Gerhardt, Runyan and Nick Carlson. In the Young Guns main, Walmer was trailed by Thompson, Farley and Brandon White.
