CARLSON, GERHARDT EARN FOCUS CHAMPIONSHIPS

BLACKHURST TAKES 30-LAP IRWINDALE FINALE

 


Nick Carlson of Norwalk, Calif. is the 2010 USAC Western Ford Focus Champion, while Cody Gerhardt of Madera, Calif. locked up three Focus crowns as a result of Thursday night’s “Turkey Night Grand Prix” finale at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif.


 


Carlson finished 21 points ahead of Gerhardt in the Western standings, but Gerhardt topped the final Pavement, Northern and Southern California points. They will be honored, along with USAC’s other 2010 racing champions, at Friday night’s “Night of Champions” USAC National Awards Dinner in downtown Indianapolis, Ind,


 


Jake Blackhurst of Mapleton, Ill won Thursdays Irwindale 30-lapper. USAC National Ford Focus Champion Nick Drake led the first 18 laps before yielding to Blackhurst, but slipped to third at the finish behind Michael J. Lewis. Keegan Walmer and Eli Schrock took the fourth and fifth positions.


 


Blackhurst piloted the Kitchen Cooked Beast to the victory. Rookie Dylan Capello posted the fastest qualifying time.
