ANDERSON KENYONS MAY 20, NEW CASTLE TRIPLEHEADER MAY 21

ARMSTRONG, WELCH & COTTONGIM SCORE AT ANDERSON


The 2009 DK Promotions “regional” Midget series opened Friday night at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and Caleb Armstrong, Dillon Welch and Tyler Cottongim earned feature victories.


 


Armstrong leads the USAC Regional Midget standings into a May 21 event at New Castle, Ind., while Welch is atop the Kenyon Midget points going into a May 20 race at Anderson. Joe Liguori, who finished fifth Friday, leads the USAC Midwest Ford Focus points into the May 21 New Castle program.


 


Armstrong, of New Castle, Ind., led all 30 laps to win Friday night’s USAC Regional Midget race at the Anderson Speedway, beating cousin Dakota to the checkered flag. Trailing the Bungee North America/Anderson’s Grain Beast/Mopars in third was Zach Daum, with Alison MacLeod fourth and Joe Liguori fifth. Kyle Hamilton was the fastest qualifier.


 


Welch, of Indianapolis, Ind., led all 30 laps to win Friday’s USAC Kenyon Midget Series opener at Anderson. Trailing his St. Vincent Sports Performance/VCS Kenyon/Yamaha were Grant Galloway, Taylor Ferns, Jared Marks and Nick Hamilton. Welch was also the fastest qualifier.


 


Cottongim, of Avon, Ind., won Friday’s 30-lap USAC Midwest Ford Focus feature at Anderson. He took the lead on lap six after Taylor Ferns got tangled up with a car she was lapping. Cottongim then led the final 25 laps in his O’Kelly’s Restaurant Equipment/Detro Trailer Sales Stealth to beat Joe Liguori, Jimmy Simpson, Coleman Gullick and Chris Lamb. Former National Ford Focus Champ Robbie Ray was forced out in a tangle on lap eight.
