ROMANO LEADS FOCUSES TO STOCKTON SATURDAY

INTRAVAIA WINS “NORTH-SOUTH SHOOTOUT” AT HICKORY

Nik Romano of Atherton, Calif. will try to protect his 50-point lead over Cody Gerhardt of Fresno, Calif. when the USAC California Pavement Ford Focuses compete Saturday at the Stockton 99 Speedway.

Romano hopes to break into the winner’s circle for the first time this year after posting eight second-place finishes in his last 11 starts! Two of the other three races resulted in thirds! Gerhardt owns 2009 victories at Blythe, Calif. and Las Vegas, Nev.

Saturday’s Stockton race is part of a USAC “tripleheader” also featuring the USAC Western Sprint Cars and Midgets.

Nick Carlson of Norwalk, Calif. won the feature event when the Ford Focuses competed at Stockton last month.

Steven Intravaia of Saylorsburg, PA won Saturday night’s 30-lap USAC Carolina Ford Focus “North-South Shootout” at the Hickory Motor Speedway. The race was also a “special event” for participants of the recently completed USAC Midwest Ford Focus Series and drew point leaders from the series as well. Intravaia was the last of three race leaders in his Brown & Miller Racing Solutions machine. He passed Matt Supan on lap 27 and led the final four laps to beat Justin Hommel, fast qualifier and Carolina point leader Jeremy Frankoski, Supan and Eric Coomes. Supan led the opening lap and Scott Hunter led the next 14. Supan returned to the lead on lap 16 but finally yielded to Intravaia. Midwest Ford Focus Champion Joe Liguori encountered engine problems and was the first to exit the 30-lap race.

The Carolina series will conclude October 24 with “double features” at the Concord (N.C.) Motor Speedway, a program which will also include the inaugural exhibition events for the new USAC Eastern Junior Focuses.
