FORD FOCUS BATTLES TO SPICE ̢

RAINED-OUT VENTURA ON “HOLD” FOR POSSIBLE FRIDAY

Thursday night’s 70th“Turkey Night Grand Prix” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif. will include competition for four 2010 USAC Ford Focus Championships in addition to the Midget and Sprint car portions of the tripleheader program.

Nick Carlson and Cody Gerhardt lead respective standings entering Thursday’s competition. Carlson is the overall Western Ford Focus leader, while Gerhardt sits atop the Pavement, Northern and Southern California points.

Garrett Peterson won last year’s “Turkey Night” Ford Focus feature but it remains to be seen if he can repeat. He ranks eighth in the Western and fourth in the pavement standings.

Carlson’s lead over Gerhardt in the Western points is 21, with 66 available. Gerhardt has a lock on the pavement title but is only 35 ahead of Kyle Edwards in the Northern California points and 55 ahead of Bobby Runyan in the Southern Calfiornia standings.

Last Saturday’s “ARP Fall Classic” at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway was rained out and a decision is forthcoming as to the status of that event’s possible rescheduling to this Friday night. Both the Western Ford Focuses and Young Guns are involved in that program.
