McMAHILL PICKS UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF AT SPOON RIVER

Canton, Illinois (May 29, 2022)………Defending USAC Engler IMRA SpeeD2 Midget champion Mark McMahill picked up right where he left off last season by scoring the victory in Sunday night’s series season opener at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill.

McMahill (Peoria, Ill.) captured the win in the 2021 season finale, and then took the season opener in 2022 after the first four scheduled events were lost to Mother Nature.

By doing so, McMahill became just the second driver in series history to win the finale of the preceding season before going on to win the opener of the next season, following Andy Baugh in 2019-20.

Thomas Harris (Lewistown, Ill.) led the opening three laps before McMahill got by and went on to score the win ahead of Harris, Shane Morgan (Creve Coeur, Ill.), Jake Sollenberger (Canton, Ill.), Russell Johnston (Monmouth, Ill.) and Kelli Harter (Mechanicsburg, Ill.)
