TYLER TAKES KASEY KAHNE “STEEL PALACE CLASSIC” AT OSWEGO

Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. is looking forward to defending his “Tony Bettenhausen 100” title August 22 when the USAC K & N Silver Crown Championship Series returns to the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.

Tyler has climbed to third in the series standings following his latest victory, in Thursday night’s Kasey Kahne “Steel Palace Classic” at the Oswego (N.Y.) Speedway. He trails point leader Bud Kaeding by 69 points and runner-up Tracy Hines by only nine.

Tyler led all 100 laps to win Thursday’s race. Driving the Lucas Oil/Fatheadz Sunglasses Beast/Toyota, Tyler got the jump on pole starter Hines and never relinquished the lead.

Josh Wise took second ahead of Jay Drake, Kody Swanson and A.J. Fike. Hines touched wheels with Wise on lap 56 while battling for second and spun into the wall. He restarted and made a spirited charge to finish eighth and now trails Bud Kaeding by 60 points. Kaeding finished 10th to retain his series lead.

Ryan Newman finished 11th and Kasey Kahne, who spun late in the race, was 20th.
