ORANGE SHOW HOSTS "GEN NEXT" ROUND 5

FLORIDA PILOTS GRAB SPOTLIGHT IN “HIGH DESERT CLASSIC”

 


Under the watchful eye of Grand Marshal Bobby Unser, Florida drivers stole the spotlight in last weekend’s “High Desert Classic” in Albuquerque, N.Mex. Six of 14 class titles went to drivers from the Sunshine State as “Generation Next Tour” Round four for the USAC Mopar .25 Midgets unfolded at Sandia Motorsports Park.


 


Round five of the “Generation Next Tour” is slated this coming weekend at the Orange Show in San Bernardino, Calif., serving as the Western District Qualifier for the July 5-9 “Battle at the Brickyard” at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.


 


Saturday’s Albuquerque round saw Florida drivers Tyler Clem (St. Petersburg), Trevor Taylor (Zellwood), Garrett Jones (West Palm Beach), Michael Atwell (Naples) and Nicholas Snyder (Marco Island) claim class victories. Clem won in Junior Honda and Junior Animal, while Taylor won in Senior Honda, Jones won in Light 160, Snyder won in Heavy 160 and Atwell won in Light World Formula.


 


Other class winners at Albuquerque, N.Mex. included New Mexico’s Michael Fanelli (Rio Rancho) in Heavy World Formula, Amber Matich of Gilbert, Ariz. in Unrestricted Animal, Berkelee Jiminez of San Antonio, Texas in Mod, Wil Raber of Allegan, Mich. in Senior Animal, Bryant Dawson of Phoenix, Ariz. in Heavy AA, Skyler Dale of La Cresta, Calif. in B, Kansas driver Mandy Chick in Heavy Honda and Logan Heat of Hereford, Ariz. in Junior Stock. Top rookies were Caleb Stelzig and Jasie Green.


 


All 12 of USAC’s “Generation Next Tour” events have chosen a neighborhood charity in USAC’s effort to “give back to the communities and members are asked to bring non-perishable canned foods to their National event for collection. The Orange Show has chosen Frazee Community Center as its charity.  The info for Frazee Community Center is 1140 W. Mill St., San Bernardino, Calif. 92410.
