FARIA, JOHNSON TAKE WEST COAST, SOUTHWEST TITLES

ROA UPSETS “WESTERN WORLD” 360 FIELD;

GRANT & HODGES SCORE TUCSON PRELIM WINS

Brody Roa of Buena Park, Calif. won Saturday night’s 48th “Western World Championships” at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., while Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, Calif. and R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. emerged as champions of the USAC West Coast and Southwest Sprint Car Series respectively.

Roa led all 30 laps in his HD Industries/Burris Racing Maxim/RC Performance to beat Brady Bacon, Justin Grant, C.J. Leary and Johnson to win the West Coast/Southwest main event. Thirty-lap prelims were taken by Grant, of Ione, Calif. (Thursday) and Josh Hodges of Tijeras, N.M. (Friday).

Grant paced the final 10 laps after passing Gary Taylor on lap 21 of Thursday’s race in his Baldwin Brothers/Fox Paving DRC/Claxton Mopar. Bacon took second ahead of Taylor, Bryan Clauson and Roa. Hodges led all 30 laps Friday in his Parts Plus/Mesilla Valley Transportation Maxim/Ostrich to beat Johnson, Andy Reinbold, Roa and Clauson.

Charles Davis Jr. of Buckeye, Ariz. prevailed in the final “Grudge Series” standings, beating Stevie Sussex by 11 points.
