SW SPRINTS GEARING UP FOR “FREEDOM TOUR”

FARIA (WC), SUSSEX (SW) GRAB 30-LAP VICTORIES

USAC’s Southwest Sprint cars have a couple of weeks to gear up for this year’s “Freedom Tour” which finds them racing four times in Kansas and Oklahoma. The next series races are August 19 at Lawton, OK, August 20 at Sapulpa, OK, August 21 at Wichita, Kans. and August 22 at Dodge City, Kans.

Stevie Sussex of Tempe, Ariz. won Saturday night’s 30-lap “Allscapes Back to School Night” USAC Southwest Sprint feature at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. He passed Nick Aiuto on lap five and led the rest of the way to beat R.J. Johnson, Charles Davis Jr., Aiuto and Josh Pelkey. Sussex piloted the Mike Burkhart Stratis Construction/Western Diversified RSS/Chevy.

The USAC West Coast Sprint cars resume action August 22 in the “Bud Stanfield Memorial” at Santa Maria (Calif.) Raceway.

USAC West Coast Sprint Car point leader Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, Calif. padded his lead with a 30-lap feature victory Saturday night at Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds in Hanford, Calif. D.J. Johnson led the first 19 laps but succumbed to Faria’s charge on lap 20 and came home second ahead of Richard Vander Weerd, Brody Roa and Tristan Guardino.
