COOMES, WILSDON & LEWIS ADD TO RESUMES WITH WINS

Nik Romano, Kipp Posey and Kyle Edwards will try to take another step toward USAC racing championships this week as Ford Focus racing continues in Nevada and California.

Romano, of Atherton, Calif. has a 34-point lead over Cody Gerhardt entering Saturday’s California Pavement/Utah race at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah is 118 points ahead of Chuck Groat in the Utah standings going into the same event.

Edwards, of Fountain Valley, Calif., is 104 points ahead of Andrew Murray in the USAC Junior Ford Focus standings going into Saturday’s race at the Ventura Raceway.

Michael J. Lewis of Laguna Beach, Calif. scored his third feature victory of the 2009 USAC California Pavement Ford Focus campaign Saturday night, leading the final 28 laps of the 30-lap race at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino. Lewis passed Eric Gunderson on lap three and set sail, beating series point leader Romano, Roa, Jake Swanson and J.R. Williams to the checkered flag.

Adam Wilsdon of Howell, Mich. led all 20 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Midwest/UMARA Ford Focus feature at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Driving the Bell Bullet, Wilsdon beat series points leader and fast qualifier Joe Liguori, Tyler Cottongim, Zach Kanizer and Tyler Trainor. Both the USAC Midwest and UMARA Focus series continue September 5 at Grundy County.

Eric Coomes of Concord, N.C. earned his first USAC feature in spectacular fashion Wednesday night at Concord Motorsports Park. He required a push-start, sending him to the rear of the field for the start, then proceeded to pass the entire field enroute to the 40-lap Carolina Ford Focus victory in his K & N Filters Special. He passed Rick Fedrizzi on lap 32 and led the final nine laps to beat series point leader Jeremy Frankoski, Fedrizzi, Michael Sboro and Chris Lamb. Coomes also was the night’s fastest qualifier. The Carolina series resumes September 5 at Hickory Motor Speedway.
