This coming weekend, NWOQMRA in Toledo is hosting the Glass City Memorial... This event was formerly called "The poor man's grands" because it was always held the same weekend as the Grands. Then it became the Willie Magrall memorial in honor of Willie who died in a car accident at 17 after many years of racing Quarter Midgets. We recently lost another awesome young man who raced with us for year, Charlie Warren. So we have renamed this event the Glass City Memorial. This is a FUN filled event with proceeds going to Victory Junction Gang Camp! We will have Friday night fun races, Saturday and Sunday full programs. On Saturday we will have slip and slides, bounce houses, games, and raffles for awesome donated prizes including Guitars, tools, tires, and much more. We will be mixing a little fun into the racing. We are also having our Test Drive on Saturday for 3 hours. Sunday will be just racing as we will want to get the program wrapped up and let people get on the road home.
Now...here is another key element of this weekend. The Grands actually are being held this weekend...just 2 hours away from Toledo. How cool would it be if we could have a larger car count at this "unofficial" USAC fun event than the car count at the grands! We need USAC .25 racers in the Ohio, Michigan, Indiana area to step up and come support this awesome event in Toledo.
This event used to draw a very nice car count in honor of Willie. The car count has shrunk over the last few years and therefore our donation to Victory Junction Gang camp has greatly diminished. We would LOVE to have this year be our strongest turn out and donation in a very long time. This would show great respect and honor to Willie, Charlie, and the others associated with this great sport that we have lost...and give back to children with special needs.
I will post the format in a separate post to follow.
PLEASE come out and support this event and let's get the car count way up! Come on MOC, Mini-Indy, Miami Valley, Kokomo, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Columbus member...and any other USAC racers...come out and let's get a great car count. The weather is supposed to be HOT and I know that could be a deterrent...but we will have plenty of water and pace the show accordingly.
