Title: Mac-O-Chee Beauty Bowl Weekend - July 29, 30, 31
Post by: dmmc on July 17, 2011, 08:53:21 PM
The Mac-O-Chee club is gearing up for our 3rd Annual Beauty Bowl Memorial Races with Hall of Fame Inductions at the Lion’s Club Park in West Liberty, Ohio with three fun days of racing over July 29, 30 and 31.

Friday, July 29 kicks off the weekend with our very own Mac-O-Chee “Sprint Cup” fun races. Drivers in all division (Rookies, Honda, Briggs, Deco and even Sr. Half) will participate in 5 lap “Sprints” for the checkered flag, with approximately four drivers in each dash. Every driver will receive a “Cup”, whose size will be determined on their finishing position (first place a really big cup, last place a really small cup), which the drivers will get to fill with some delicious edible awards from the prize bin. Open practice for the weekend will be on Friday from 9 am – 4 pm, sign-ins from 4 – 7 pm, handler’s meeting at 7:15 with “Sprint Cup” races starting at 7:30.  Pill draw at sign-ins will determine starting point for dash. Time limits will be determined based on car count. Friday nights sign-in cost is ONLY $5 per car.

During sign-ins on Friday, July 29 from 4 – 7 pm, we will hold our annual Arrive and Drive for the community. Parents and/or legal guardians must accompany children to sign the waiver. All participants must wear tennis shoes. All safety equipment will be provided. Drivers will go through a short training and get their 10 laps on the track. If you have friends or family who have wanted to test drive a quarter midget, invite them to come along with you on Friday. While the Arrive and Drive and sign-ins are going on, special fun events are planned for all kids and families.

On Saturday, July 30, the historic past meets the future in our Beauty Bowl memorial event. You won’t want to the miss the opportunity to mingle around the vintage quarter midget cars that will be on display from across the country (the car count keeps growing). Several of the restored quarter midgets will once again take to the track driven by the experienced drivers of today.  Stop by the welcome center tent to meet our Hall of Fame members, view the vintage racing memorabilia and take some time to listen to the stories of quarter midget racing from across the years. In many ways, our Beauty Bowl event is a quarter midget family reunion, where all can come together to have some fun with their families, see people they haven’t seen in year and swap stories about their years in quarter midget racing.  This year’s inductees will include: Ralph West (deceased) a member from 1958-1962; Kyle “Scooter” West, member from 1958-1962; Ryan Peterson, member from 1985-1990; Mike and Lisa Heitzman, members from 1986-1993, and associate members from 2007.

Activities for Saturday’s Beauty Bowl Races: We will run all USAC classes (Rookies, Honda, Briggs, Deco and even Sr. Half) with time limits on all events based on car count.  Sign-ins from 8 – 9 am with a cost of ONLY $10 per car. Handler’s meeting at 9:15 am. All classes will qualify, with qualifying order determined by sign-in order (first to sign in – last to qualify; last to sign-in – first to qualify). Top 8 qualifiers will lock into the features. We will run 12 cars and 2 cars constitute a class. If more than 12 cars in a class, 20 lap last chance semi races will be run to fill the starting places for the A-main events, with all last-chance races following qualifying. All Rookie/Honda classes will take the track for their 30 lap A-main races starting around 2:00pm, followed by all Briggs and Stratton classes 30 Lap A-main features at approximately 4:00pm and all our Deco classes (Stocks, Mods, B, Lt AA, Hvy AA) will race under the lights, starting around 7:30 pm for 40 lap A-main features. The last race of the night will be the infamous Senior Half Race. Our vintage quarter midgets will take the track following each A-main race. Our Hall of Fame ceremony will start at 6:30. All drivers will need to be in uniform for the ceremony and will be introduced as part of the Hall of Fame activities. We will do a group photo of all drivers with our Hall of Fame inductees.

All drivers will be awarded with special prizes, ranging from gift cards, fast food certificates, movie certificates, electronic devices, t-shirts, and much more. Special thanks to Honda, Hoosier Tire Company, and Briggs and Stratton for additional items for drivers, along with track sponsor Ohio Caverns. A very special thanks goes out to our track sponsor, RD Holder Oil Company, for their generous Beauty Bowl donation for the winners of the Light AA and Heavy AA classes, as each winner will each receive a $500 Savings Bond.

Sunday concludes the weekend events with the 3rd leg of the Ohio 4 Championship Series. Sign-ins will be from 10:00 – 11:00 ($20 per car) with a handler’s meeting at 11:30. Racing starts at noon. Sunday’s racing will follow the Ohio 4 format.

Friday and Saturday’s formats are subject to change based on car count and/or if we come up with more fun events for the kids. The West Liberty Lion’s Club will be having a delicious Fish Fry on Saturday. If you are planning on heading to the Little Hoosier race the following weekend and want to come up/over/down to attend the Beauty Bowl, we welcome you and can probably find a home for your trailer or can help you plan a little vacation in Ohio.

Check out for updates. E-mail or call if you have additional questions.

Hope to see you on July 29, 30 and 31!

Sure looking forward to the Beauty Bowl!...I know that my Dad and Mom brought there car down to West Liberty in the late 50's before I started racing. To be able to see all the vintage 1/4 midgets is great, I am probably older than some of them. The chance to run a AA race under the lights is something we have been waiting for, hope to see a lot of AA's making a lot of raquet a week from Saturday
