USAC REGIONAL RACING PREVIEW: August 7-9, 2020

 

RAPID TIRE EAST COAST SPRINT CARS

The USAC Rapid Tire East Coast Sprint Cars have a doubleheader weekend on tap this Saturday and Sunday night, August 8-9 in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The first stop for the series arrives Saturday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J. for the first time since Eddie Strada’s victory there in 2018.  Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies are also on the card.  Pits open at 4pm ET, stands at 5pm and hot laps at 6pm.  Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors age 65-plus, $15 for teens age 12-15 and military members with, while kids age 11 and under are free.

The following night, on Sunday, the series makes its debut at Pennsylvania’s Selinsgrove Speedway in a doubleheader with the USAC Silver Crown Champ Car Series.  Among those doing double-duty in both divisions are USAC National standouts, Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Kevin Thomas Jr. (Cullman, Ala.).  Pit gates open at 3pm ET, grandstands at 4:30pm (4pm for advance ticket holders), drivers meeting at 5:30pm and practice at 6pm, followed by qualifying and racing.

Adult general admission tickets for Sunday at Selinsgrove are $25 with students ages 12 – 17 priced at $15. MIDWEST THUNDER SPEED2 MIDGETS

It’s also a doubleheader weekend for the SpeeD2 Midwest Thunder Midgets in the state of Indiana, Friday, August 7, at Gas City I-69 Speedway and on Saturday, August 8, at Montpelier Motor Speedway. 

Friday marks Gas City’s third MTM event of the 2020 season.  Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio) captured the victory in June while series point leader Adam Taylor (Dwight, Ill.) took the top honors in July.  Pits open at 3pm ET, with front gates opening at 5pm and hot laps at 6:30pm, followed by racing.  Adult general admission tickets are $15 with kids age 12 and under free and pit passes $30 apiece.  Sprint Cars, UMP Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets are also part of the racing festivities.

For the first time this season, the series returns to Montpelier Motor Speedway.  Gates open at 3pm ET with hot laps at 5pm followed by racing action.  UMP Modifieds, Super Streets, Thunder Cars and FWD Compacts are also on the event card.

The USAC IMRA SpeeD2 Midgets head to “The Spoon” this Saturday night, August 8, where Cody Gerdes (Eureka, Ill.), Bryan Stanfill (Brea, Calif.) and series point leader Andy Baugh (Mason City, Ill.) have reigned victorious already this year.  Pits open at 4pm ET and hot laps at 6:15pm with racing to follow.

DMA SPEED2 MIDGETS

USAC DMA SpeeD2 Midgets are back home this Saturday night, August 8, at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt.  Reigning champ Will Hull (Plainfield, Vt.) has won twice there in 2020 while current point leader Seth Carlson (Stafford, Conn.) has won once.  Pits open at 3pm, gates at 4pm and racing at 6pm.  Adult tickets are $12, seniors 62-plus are $10 and kids 11 & under are free.  Pit passes are $30 apiece for members and $35 for non-members.  Granite State Mini Sprints, Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, C.A. Miller Limited Late Models, Dirt Stockers and Peanut’s Auto LLC Four Cylinders are also in action.

EASTERN SPEED2 MIDGETS

Dominion Raceway in Spotsylvania, Va. is the spot for USAC Eastern SpeeD2 Midget racing this Saturday night, August 8. 

Neal Allison and Connor Gross took victories last year at Dominion.  This year, three-time series champ and current point leader Jessica Bean has already won once in June at Orange County.  Chris Lamb, three times a champ with the series, has won both a points race and a non-points race in 2020 at South Carolina’s Florence Motor Speedway and Anderson (Ind.) Speedway, respectively, both in July.

On raceday, practice for the CARS Tour begins at 2:30pm ET, followed by two rounds of midget practice at 4pm and 4:30pm, plus qualifying at 5:50pm and racing a 7:30pm.

RADICAL FOCUS SPEED2 MIDGETS

The second event of the inaugural USAC Radical Midget series comes to Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif. this Saturday night, August 8.  The debut in July at Lakeport (Calif.) Speedway featured three lead changes among three different drivers.  Gunslingers Winged Sprint Cars, Grand American Modifieds, BCRA Midgets, Vintage Midgets and the Legends of Kearney Bowl will also be there.  Pit registration begins at 1pm, practice starts at 3:45pm and racing at 6pm.  Pit passes are $40 apiece for all ages.
