THOMAS & CLAUSON (2) WIN, RAIN KO’s FINALE

The Casey’s General Stores “Ultimate Challenge” at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa is next up for the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Cars and Bryan Clauson is the new point leader in the series.

Clauson, of Noblesville, Ind., emerged with his first “Indiana Sprint Week” title Saturday after rains washed out the final event at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt. Clauson and his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian team finished with a 26-point cushion over Brady Bacon in the final ISW standings.

Clauson’s title was aided by back-to-back feature victories at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville Thursday and Bloomington Speedway Friday. He caught Christopher Bell on lap 13 at Putnamville and led the final 18 laps in his Chevy Performance/Curb Records Beast/Kistler. Bell was second ahead of Brady Short, Jon Stanbrough and Chris Windom.

On Friday Clauson caught Kevin Thomas Jr. on lap 18 and sped off to the win as Thomas encountered steering problems resulting in a 16th-place finish. Chase Stockon, Bacon, Windom and Ryan Bernal rounded out the “top-five” at the checkered flag.

Thomas, of Cullman, Ala. had stamped himself as the man to beat on Wednesday, leading all 30 laps of the “Don Smith Classic” at the Terre Haute Action Track. Trailing his Rotondo Weirich/Black Jack Oil Maxim/Fisher were Stanbrough, Bacon, Robert Ballou and Stockon.

The Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team, by virtue of their series crown, claimed the $3,500 Bridgeport Rocker crafted by Loogootee, Ind.’s John Youngs.

ProSource fast qualifiers the past week included Stanbrough, Thomas and Windom. The “Josh Burton Hard Charger Award” for the entire ISW series went to Hunter Schuerenberg, while Bell, Short and Tracy Hines won B & W Auto Mart and ProSource “hard charger” awards last week.
