SOUTHERN STATES DIVISION II MIDGETS SUPPORT OCALA USAC SPRINT RACES

SOUTHERN STATES DIVISION II MIDGETS SUPPORT OCALA USAC SPRINT RACES

Organized in 2010 to establish non-winged Midget racing in the south, the Southern States Division II Midget Series (SSMS) will compete as a support series at the upcoming February 21-23 AMSOIL USAC Sprint Car events at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.

Headquartered at Marion County Speedway, a short distance south of Ocala’s Bubba Raceway Park, the series incorporates a variety of machines as it begins its third Winternationals calendar.

The opening races of the 2013 AMSOIL USAC Sprint series at the 3/8-mile dirt oval mark USAC’s third consecutive year there. It continues a tradition of Florida racing which began when USAC’s inaugural Sprint race ever was contested at West Palm Beach in 1956.

Defending Champion Rob Feeney and 2011 titlist Darrin Davis are expected to compete in the Southern States Division II Midget program, along with Winternationals kings Mike Kiser (2011) and Canada’s Daniel Nadeau (2012).

“We are excited to partner with USAC in the February races at Ocala,” says Wayne Davis, owner and promoter of the series. “I look forward to the challenge our teams will face on the 3/8-mile oval and the exciting competition we expect to generate. “With passion, drive and determination we have produced midget racing at the truest form of auto racing with so much power with a short wheel base they provide the intense racing the fans crave for when they pay their hard earned dollars to come to a race track."

SSMS sported over 50 drivers from a dozen states and two countries last year.

“The SSMS will create for our fans a stellar double-header at Ocala,” says USAC’s James Spink. “It’s two open wheel series and one big weekend in the Florida sun!”
