FAAS NOW 2ND IN CRA POINTS AFTER 2nd STRAIGHT PERRIS VICTORY

Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif. continued his pursuit of a record fourth consecutive AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint car title Saturday night with his third-place finish in the 30-lap race at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. He now turns his attention to a pair of AMSOIL USAC National Sprint races October 28-29 at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz., which will afford points toward both the National and USAC/CRA championships.

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif. led the final 16 laps to win Saturday night’s 30-lap AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint race at Perris. Faas trailed Rickie Gaunt for 14 laps, then led the rest of the way in his Mark Alexander entry to beat Gaunt, Mike Spencer, Rip Williams and Greg Bragg.

The victory was the second in a row for Faas at the half-mile Perris oval and vaulted him to second in the series standings ahead of Matt Mitchell, who was seventh Saturday. Faas trails Spencer by 31 points and is eight ahead of Mitchell as the three continue their battle for the 2011 series title.
