WESTERN SPRINTS EYE SEPTEMBER 19 RACE AT MADERA

SWANSONS “SWEEP” RMR; MURGOITIO GRABS ROCKY MOUNTAIN TITLE

The USAC Western Sprint cars will compete in the “Coors Light Harvest Classic” September 19 at the Madera 9Calif.) Speedway and Tanner Swanson enjoys a 77-point lead in the standings entering the event.

Tanner trailed his brother Kody to the finish line Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 50-lap race concluded the 2009 USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain series and third-place finisher Mike Murgoitio of Meridian, Idaho emerged as the series champion.

The Swansons dominated the 50-lap Utah race as Kody passed Ryan Burdett on lap two and led the rest of the way in his TK Motorsports machine. Trailing Tanner, who was second, were Murgoitio, Burdett and Tony Hunt.

Murgoitio concluded the 2009 Rocky Mountain campaign with his seventh podium finish in eight starts, which included four wins.

Tanner Swanson won the last USAC Sprint race at Madera, while JoJo Helberg, who ranks second in the new Western standings, also has a 2009 Madera victory.
