USAC/CRA SPRINTS INVADE VENTURA SATURDAY

USAC/CRA SPRINTS INVADE VENTURA SATURDAY; GARDNER HALTS JONES STREAK AT THE PAS

The Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars are headed to Ventura (Calif.) Raceway Saturday night and the series point lead is up for grabs. Leader Mike Spencer is 62 ahead of Blake Miller, with 74 available Saturday.

Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif. posted his series-record 33rd feature victory Saturday at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, halting Tony Jones' four-race Perris winning streak in the process. Jones finished sixth in the 30-lap race.

Gardner passed Jones on lap 17 and led the final 14 laps in his Leffler Racing Team ASE Stanton Mopar. Jones encountered lapped traffic and spun but was able to charge back to sixth at the checkered flag. Spencer took second ahead of fast qualifier Miller, Danny Sheridan and Chad Boat.

Jones was second in the only previous 2008 USAC/CRA race at Ventura, won by Cory Kruseman. Saturday night's racing program also includes the USAC California Dirt Ford Focus and Junior Ford Focus series.
