Speedway, Indiana (May 19, 2021)………After doubling up in the most recent appearances by the series at Eldora in early May, the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship takes on another double weekend, this time at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday and Saturday night, May 21-22.

Three drivers – Brady Bacon, Kevin Thomas Jr. & Tanner Thorson – have each won twice with the series this season.  It’s the first time since 2012 that no driver has won more than twice throughout the first 11 races of the season.  Going back, it’s only the fifth time over the past 24 seasons that it’s happened.

The eight different winners through 11 races are the most with the series since 2016 with Bacon, Thomas, Thorson, Robert Ballou, Tyler Courtney, Kyle Cummins, Justin Grant and C.J. Leary all notching victories of their own thus far.

Bacon and Dynamics, Inc. lead the driver and entrant points entering this weekend’s races.  In both of Bacon’s first two series title seasons, Bacon led the points after 11 races – by 32 points in 2014 and by 19 in 2016.  Interesting to note is that Bacon was 76 points out of first place, and in third, after 11 races in 2020 before charging back to the top of the points race.

Bacon’s 763 points through 11 races are the second most in series history through 11 races, trailing only Kevin Thomas Jr.’s 784 in 2018.  That year, Thomas was the driver for Dynamics, Inc.  Thomas Jr. has led a season-high 65 laps this year.

Tanner Thorson (Minden, Nev.) holds on to the Rookie of the Year point lead despite a couple of trying nights in the two most recent races at Eldora, although Paul Nienhiser (Chapin, Ill.) was able to close the gap, but remains a hefty 153 markers behind.  The last Rookie of the Year to win multiple races in a single season was Josh Wise in 2004.  Thorson has already won twice.  Nienhiser, meanwhile, turned in his best career USAC finish with a 5th in his most recent outing at Eldora.

Bacon leads all with nine top-five and is one of three drivers to finish inside the top-ten in 10 of their 11 starts: Bacon, Robert Ballou and Justin Grant.  In contrast, at this point in 2020, only one driver had finished inside the top-ten in at least that many starts – Justin Grant – who had 11 top-fives in his first 11 starts.

Eight drivers have made feature starts in 11 races: Brady Bacon, Robert Ballou, Justin Grant, C.J. Leary, Jake Swanson, Kevin Thomas Jr., Tanner Thorson and Chris Windom.  Last year, at this point, there were seven: Bacon, Grant, Leary, Carson Short, Chase Stockon, Thomas and Windom.

Timmy Buckwalter (Douglassville, Pa.) has the most fast qualifying times with three despite only making five appearances this season.  Robert Ballou and Justin Grant each have four heat race wins.

This weekend at Lakeside Speedway, tickets will be available at the gate on each race day.  However, tickets can also be purchased in advance at www.TracPass.com.  One-day general admission tickets are on sale now for $25.  Two-day general admission tickets are $45.  Tickets for children aged 12-15 are $10 per day while kids aged 11 and under are admitted for free.

Pit passes are available at the track as well as on www.TracPass.com.  Pit passes are $30 for members and $35 for non-members.  Two-day pit passes can be purchased for $60.  One-day pit passes for children aged 6 and under are $15.

Both nights, registration and pit gates open at 3pm CDT with the grandstands/ticket office opening at 5pm and hot laps at 6:30pm, immediately followed by qualifying and racing. Friday’s action will also include E-Mods and Mod Lites, while Saturday’s event card will have the E-Mods.

For more information on the event, visit USAC’s official website at www.USACracing.com.  You can also visit the race promoter’s website at www.trackenterprises.com or by calling their office at (217) 764-3200.  You may check out the track’s website directly by clicking www.lakesidespeedway.net or by calling at (913) 299-9206.
