STEVE HOWARD PASSES

STEVE HOWARD PASSES

PERRIS, Calif. – Retired racer Steve Howard passed away in his sleep on Monday night in California. After his racing career ended, Howard remained active in the sport working with his late father Glenn at So. Cal Performance in Downey, Calif. In addition to supplying racers with parts, competitors always looked to the longtime driver for helps on setups as well. Over the past decade, he was instrumental in getting the Louie Vermeil Classic off the ground at the Calistoga Speedway in Northern California and he raised thousands of dollars every year for the Glenn Howard Memorial race, which was named after his father.

Howard was also a noted authority on the history sprint car racing in Southern California and his vast knowledge was considered second to none. His last appearance at the races was at the Turkey Night Grand Prix on Thanksgiving. USAC extends its sympathies to the Howard family and all of his friends and associates.
