JIM McCLEAN, 71

Jim McClean of Braceville, Ill. a three-time USAC National Midget race winner, passed away Saturday at the age of 71. The 1966 UARA Midget Rookie of the Year and 1969 Badger Midget Champion, Jim was a frequent winner at the Joliet (Ill.) Memorial Stadium where he stands third in career midget victories. In 1971 he scored his first USAC win at Santa Fe Park in Hinsdale, Ill. and ended up 9th in the final USAC National Midget points. He followed with a 1972 win at Santa Fe and then won a 1979 race at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Ind. That year he also competed in the USAC Mini Indy series at the Milwaukee Mile, finishing 14th. In 1992, he attempted to qualify for a few races in the USAC Silver Crown series. Services are scheduled from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Baskerville Funeral Home, located at 700 Kahler Rd. in Wilmington, Ill. USAC extends its condolences to his family and friends.
