WESTERN STATES MIDGETS AT THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY THIS SATURDAY

WESTERN STATES MIDGETS AT THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY SATURDAY

The Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. hosts this Saturday night’s USAC “doubleheader” featuring the West Coast Sprint Cars and the Western States Midgets.

Defending USAC Western States Midget king Ronnie Gardner is again on top of the point standings as he seeks a record fourth consecutive championship, something even seven-time series champ Sleepy Tripp was unable to accomplish. Tripp did string three straight together from 1990 to 1992.

Unfortunately for Gardner, Tulare was not one of his best tracks last season. He finished 11th and 12th in the two races held at the 1/3-mile, high-banked clay oval last May.

Michael Faccinto and Brady Bacon were the 2015 Western States Midget winners in Tulare.

Gardner enters Tulare with a four-point lead over Shane Golobic, while Cody Swanson sits third in the standings, only nine out of the lead.
