ABREU “INDIANA MIDGET WEEK” CHAMP AFTER KOKOMO RAINOUT

The USAC Honda National Midgets join the POWRi Midgets July 5 for the annual “Pepsi Nationals” at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. Tracy Hines continues atop the USAC standings, but his lead stands at nine points over Kevin Thomas Jr.

Rico Abreu of Rutherford, Calif. and his Keith Kunz Motorsports/Curb-Agajanian team were crowned champions of “Indiana Midget Week” Sunday after rains and wet grounds forced cancellation of the series finale at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway. The race at Kokomo had originally been postponed by weather on June 14.

Abreu finished with a single-point margin over Bryan Clauson. The title was Rico’s second in a row. Clauson had previously won the title in 2009 and 2011. Indiana Midget Week feature winners this year were Tanner Thorson (Gas City), Clauson (Putnamville), Christopher Bell (Bloomington) and Abreu (Lawrenceburg).
