GAS CITY INDIANA SPRINT WEEK HISTORY TIDBITS
Gas City I-69 Speedway makes its reappearance on the Indiana Sprint Week schedule in 2019. The quarter-mile dirt oval joined the NOS Energy Drink Indiana Sprint Week schedule in 2002. Tonight’s edition marks the 17th ever ISW visit by the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship and the eighth time it has served as the ISW opener (2002, 2011-16).
Sixteen previous ISW races have been run at Gas City with Jon Stanbrough (Avon, Ind.) as the all-time winningest ISW driver at Gas City where he picked up five of his 16 career ISW wins in 2006-07-10-13-14.
Cory Kruseman (Ventura, Calif.) won the first visit in 2002 aboard the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 67, with whom he’d win again for at Gas City in 2005. Both of those wins came in the same year as Kruseman’s two Indiana Sprint Week championships. Stanbrough won Gas City and the title in both 2006 and 2010, while J.J. Yeley (2003) and Levi Jones (2009) also collected both in the same season.
Seven different drivers have won once apiece at Gas City during ISW, including Daron Clayton (2007), Cole Whitt (2008), Dave Darland (2011), Bryan Clauson (2012), Chase Stockon (2015), Tyler Courtney (2016) and C.J. Leary (2017).
Four past winners are expected to compete at Gas City tonight's 2019 ISW opener: Darland, Stockon, Courtney and Leary.
ISW gets underway this Thursday, July 18 at Gas City I-69 Speedway where pits open at 4pm Eastern, front gates open at 5pm and hot laps begin at 7:30pm. Adult general admission tickets are $25 and kids 12 and under are free. Pit passes are $30 apiece. 600cc Non-Wing Micros will be in action.
