BILL SMYTH, 90, USAC's 1ST EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 


Bill Smyth, who in 1969 became USAC's first Executive Director, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, in Pompano Beach, Fla. at age 90. Smyth, who was assistant to the president of the New Orleans Saints, served on AAA and USAC Boards for two decades and in 1970 was also named USAC Competition Director. A former business manager for ARDC and chief steward for the Sebring endurance race for 14 years, Smyth was instrumental in Marlboro's USAC National Championship Trail involvement in the early-1970s.
