Jim Hettinger of Ypsilanti, Mich., who won championships in the 1984 World Wide Auto Racing and NAMAR series and the 1990 ARCA/WWAR title, has passed away at the age of 67. We remember Jim as the champion of USAC's 1994 and 1998 Hoosier Dome Invitational Midget races in Indianapolis but he also scored an impressive indoor USAC win in 1991 at the Charlotte (NC) Coliseum. Outdoor USAC wins came at Lanier Raceway in Gainesville, Ga. in 1990 and 1991 and in a 1993 outing at Indianapolis Raceway Park. In 1998 he was inducted into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame and last year he received the Eddie Sachs Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club.
