“BATTLE AT THE BRICKYARD” EYES IMS RECORD

The upcoming “Battle at the Brickyard” is expected to establish a new record for the number of race cars to tour the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at a single time when the USAC .25 Midgets converge on the historic oval July 7-10.

Last year a total of 178 cars toured the 2.5-mile oval in a ceremonial lap. This year, the event has already received over 310 pre-registrations! The event is round three of the 2016 USAC National .25 Midget calendar, following events at Gilbert, Pa. and Fountain, Colo. The National Championship will continue August 19-21 at Pocono, Pa. and September 23-25 at Rossburg, Ohio before concluding September 29-October 2 at Las Vegas, Nev.

Series coordinator Jerry Coons Jr. anticipates a spectacular four days, with racing occurring on a special-constructed oval in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield. This year’s event marks the seventh running of the “Battle at the Brickyard.”

“We look forward to an even bigger “Battle at the Brickyard” than last year’s event,” says Coons. “We just completed a great event at Pikes Peak International Raceway and the kids loved taking a couple of laps there. There is a huge buzz going around about the impending lap at Indy.”

Parking of all vehicles, trailers and motorhomes will take place from noon-5 pm Thursday, July 7. Practice, opening ceremonies and heat races will commence Friday, with handlers.drivers meeting at the line-up chute at 8 am. Saturday includes remaining heat races and lower mains, with races expected to conclude at 6:30 pm. The ceremonial lap around the 2.5-mile oval will proceed at 7 pm. A-Mains will commence on Sunday at 8:30 am.
