USAC/CRA SPRINT CAR’S “SO-CAL SHOWDOWN” SATURDAY AT PERRIS
Saturday night’s “So-Cal Showdown” at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway is next up for USAC’s AMSOIL CRA Sprint Cars and the race could result in a new series point leader.
Bryan Clauson, by virtue of his March victory at Perris, remains atop the standings, but Richard Vander Weerd, the defending “So-Cal Showdown” winner and a three-time Perris feature winner last year, trails him by just seven points.
Brody Roa, who was third in the series opener behind Clauson and Vander Weerd, is third in the current points and will continue his pursuit of his first Perris triumph.
Five-time series champ Mike Spencer is fifth in the latest tally, but defending series champion Damion Gardner, a “So-Cal Showdown” winner in 2014, hopes to kick-start his 2016 campaign after a disappointing start in the Perris opener. Gardner’s 37 victories and 844 total laps led at the PAS are CRA records, but he hopes to land a significant milestone Saturday. He has led 49 Perris CRA features so far, so Saturday could prove to be “golden.”
