WEST COAST “SPECIAL EVENT” AT PEORIA SATURDAY

 

WEST COAST “SPECIAL EVENT” AT PEORIA SATURDAY;

FARIA, VANDER WEERD WIN “MEMORIAL” RACES

A non-points “Special Event” is on tap Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. for the USAC West Coast Sprint Cars as they join with the USAC Southwest Sprint cars, which will compete for full series points.

Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, Calif. continues atop the West Coast standings, with the final points race October 12 at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif.

Faria won Friday night’s 6th “Jim Turner Memorial” at Kings Speedway in Hanford. Faria led the final 22 laps of the 30-lapper in his Johnson Calf Pens/DeBoer & Sons Trucking Spike/Reitz. Markus Niemela led the first two laps, Faria led the next four and Richard Vander Weerd led two before Faria took over. Bud Kaeding finished second, while Richard Vander Weerd was third. Troy Rutherford and Austin Liggett were fourth and fifth.

Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia, Calif. captured Saturday night’s 30-lap “Harry Talbot Memorial” USAC West Coast Sprint race at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. He led the last two laps after Kaeding was involved with a lapped car on the white-flag lap while leading. Trailing Vander Weerd’s Vander Weerd Construction/Battery Worx Maxim/Shark at the checkered flag were series point leader Faria, Austin Liggett, Jace Vander Weerd and D.J. Netto.
